Although NYC is known as the “City that never sleeps”, it really comes alive during the summer!

From festivals and street fairs to major and minor leagues baseball games to Jones Beach and Coney Island, the five boroughs are a bounty of summertime fun!

Yet, there’s a summertime gem that’s not on the radar of many NYC residents.

Meet The Honorable William Wall

If a friend said “I want you to meet the Honorable William Wall” you’d probably think they were about to introduce you to a NYC judge, Then you’d probably wonder why.

However, what your friend is not actually about to introduce you to a person.

Although there was a local figure known as Honorable William Wall (a rope maker who, through various circumstances became founder and president of the Williamsburg Savings Bank and later the Mayor of Williamsburg), the present incarnation of HWW is one of the coolest places on the waterfront.

Anchored in the heart of New York Harbor, Willy Wall (as it’s affectionately nicknamed) is a floating clubhouse owned and operated by the Manhattan Yacht Club

From May to October, this floating barge is a popular destination for a drink and a bite to eat thanks to its open upper deck and its members-only enclosed bar/lounge on the lower level.

Still, the real reason to visit Willy Wall is the unique perspective of the city that it offers.

Amazing Sights and Sounds

Willy Wall isn’t just anchored in the harbor. It’s located right near Ellis Island. That means visitors now only enjoy a spectacular view of the NYC skyline – they also get an awe-inspiring view of the majestic Statue of Liberty!

In addition to the amazing views, residents can also enjoy premium seating for the sailboat races held every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and each Saturday afternoon (weather permitting).

Open to the public (yet heavily discounted for yacht club members), Willy Wall is also available for corporate events and private rentals.

What To Know Before You Go

Before you plan your visit to Willy Wall, there are a few things you’ll need to know in advance.

The “Admiral’s Launch” is the only way to travel to-and-from Willy Wall. This ample-sized boat runs between the club and the barge every ½ hour each day of operation. On weekdays, the launch costs $20 per person; on weekends the travel cost is $30 per person.

Although the Willy Wall is operated by a yacht club, there is no dress code. Visitors can wear their more comfortable and casual summer attire. However, the club does encourage visitors to don nautical-themed wear to make the experience extra special!

The Willy Wall only accommodates about 150 people. So it fills up fast! The yacht club recommends purchasing tickets in advance. That way you’re guaranteed a spot on the deck!
