When it comes to having fun indoors during the winter time, bowling can’t be beat. It’s fun for everyone, doesn’t require a lot of expensive equipment (the alley will loan you a ball and shoes), and it provides ample time to socialize between frames.

While Brooklyn is home to some great alleys like Bowl 360 and Melody Lanes, there’s one local spot that has taken the bowling alley experience to the next level: Brooklyn Bowl

What makes this bowling alley so special? Keep reading to find out!

Modern Bowling

Located in the former Hecla Iron Works Building in the popular Williamsburg neighborhood, Brooklyn Bowl opened in 2009. Upon its arrival, this venue disguised itself from other area establishments with its innovative environmentally-friendly features such as recycled glass flooring that incorporates recycled truck tires, and bowling pin–setting machines that use significantly less energy than traditional machines.

Rather than follow the traditional path set by previous bowling alleys, Brooklyn Bowl decided to put a modern spin on things. Instead of the usual plastic benches, bowlers can relax on luxurious leather Chesterfield sofas between frames. Featuring 16 lanes, Brooklyn Bowl keeps the difference rolling in numerous ways, especially with the fare they serve.

Food & Drink

Bowling is one of the few sporting activities that lets players actively indulge in snacks between their turn to participate. While most traditional bowling alleys offer hot dogs and microwave pizzas (or just vending machines), Brooklyn Bowl elevates their food and drink game with help from local favorite Blue Ribbon.

When they’re not knocking down pins, bowlers can enjoy uncommon appetizers like hummus, fried calamari, “Rock & Roll Fries” (fries covered in chicken gravy, Cajun spices, and two kinds of cheese), and Cajun shrimp cocktail. For fare that’s a bit more hearty, players can choose from a variety of gourmet burgers, French bread pizzas, ribs, and even a Salmon dinner entree.

Lighter fare can be found in salads and there’s even a kid’s menu. Vegan and gluten-free options are available, along with desserts, egg creams, shakes, and an amazing selection of craft beer.

If bowling isn’t your thing, there’s another fantastic reason to check out Brooklyn Bowl: the live concerts!

Live Music and Events

You heard that right. Besides being a modern bowling alley, Brooklyn Bowl is also one of the area’s best live entertainment venues

Housed next to the 16-land bowling alley, Brooklyn Bowl’s music hall hosts live music, comedy, and more from a variety of popular international, national, and local artists and acts. This 2,000 capacity venue was heralded as the “20th Best Live Music Venue in the U.S.” by Rolling Stone magazine and has presented shows from favorites spanning numerous genres from rock to rap to R&B to pop to country—and everything in between.
