Many of the parks throughout Brooklyn welcome dogs. Yet, most of them require your furry friends to remain on a leash at all times.

This isn’t very helpful if your dog has a lot of energy they need to work off so they can chill out and relax once they are back home in your apartment.

The good news is that Brooklyn also features a lot of dedicated dog parks that allow poochie pals to ditch the leash and run and play without any confinement.

If you and your furry roommate are looking for someplace nice to enjoy plenty of play time and maybe even socialize with other canines and their owners, then these are the best off leash dog park options for you!

Hillside Dog Park

Located in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood between Columbia Heights, Vine Street, and the BQE, Hillside Dog Park is home to over an acre of land where your dogs can run and play without their leash.

Completely fenced in for your pet’s safety, Hillside features designated areas for large and small dogs. Plus, it even has multiple picnic tables and benches so owners and their pets can meet up for a cup of coffee or a nice lunch.

Best of all, during warm weather months, owners can keep their dogs cooled off and hydrated thanks to several water fountains located throughout the park.

Brooklyn Bridge Park Dog Runs

Although dogs are required to be on a leash at all times when visiting Brooklyn Bridge Park, there are a couple of spaces where they can shed their leashes.

Open every day all year round from 6:30 AM until 10:00 PM, the dog runs at Brooklyn Bridge park gives pet owners a chance to let their dogs burn off some of their stored energy after sleeping all night or hanging out at home during the work day.

While dogs can go leash free in the designated runs at Main Street and Pier 6, owners still have to maintain control of their pets at all times to prevent risk of injury or incidents.

Please note: the dog runs are briefly closed each morning to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned to keep all human and canine visitors happy and healthy!

Fort Greene Park

A historic park that was once the home of forts that were vital during our nation’s Revolutionary War, Fort Greene Park is now a popular recreational spot for Brooklyn residents thanks to its basketball and tennis courts, and playgrounds.

It’s become an even bigger attraction thanks to designated areas where dogs can frolic and play leash free. Fort Greene features dog runs and other indicated areas that are open to pet owners every day from 9:00 PM until 9:00 AM. After that time, the park is too busy with visitors,  activities, and events.

While dogs are still welcome in the park during peak hours, they must remain on a leash of no more than six feet long as per NYC law.
