The Story of Brooklyn’s Finest Vineyard
As its name implies, Rooftop Reds is the city’s only rooftop vineyard. Located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Rooftop Reds began in 2016 when its team decided it was time that the neighborhood had its own vineyard.
Since urban settings are not your common location for a vineyard, the Rooftop Reds team needed some help to realize their dream. They turned to the experts at Cornell University who helped them develop the innovative urban planter system that now covers 14,800 square-feet of their rooftop.
Nine years later, their vines continue to grow strong. And the fruit they bear produces wine that is distinctly Brooklyn.
Events on the Roof
Throughout the year, Rooftop Red hosts an array of special events at their vineyard.
This summer, residents and visitors can indulge themselves with such food and wine pairings as wine and truffles or ribs and rosé (featuring different dishes that showcase a variety of BBQ styles).
Out of all their special events, one proves to be the most popular of all: pizza, wine and movie nights!
Hosted on Thursday nights throughout the summer and select dates throughout the fall, this marvelous mix of movies, food and drink is the toast of the town. For $25, each ticket holder receives two slices of gourmet pizza, a serving of delicious popcorn and admission to a classic movie played on the vineyard’s large outdoor screen.
This summer’s film selections include such fan favorites as E.T., Poetic Justice, The Boondock Saints, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Up, Dirty Dancing, Cocktail, Singin’ In the Rian and Almost Famous. During October, Halloween fans will want to get tickets for such spooky favorites as Psycho, Addams Family Values, and multiple screenings of Hocus Pocus.
If guests want to have a truly magical experience, they can enjoy a glass or two of some of Rooftop Red finest white, red, rosé and riesling wines. Sparkling and desserts wines are also available along with an assortment of beers, ciders and non-alcoholic beverages.
