Ready to go outside, stretch those legs and soak up the sun after a long winter (and even longer 2020)? Then New York Road Runners invite you to join their open run fun!

Starting on August 3 and lasting until late November, the NYRR encourages their neighbors to meet them at Pier 6 of the Brooklyn Bridge Park every Tuesday night at 7:00PM for an evening of running, exercising and community building.

Open to all ages, the NYRR’s Tuesday night open runs aren’t just for expert and amateur runners. These weekly events are designed to accommodate both advanced and novice joggers and walkers The purpose of these weekly events is not to spur competition but to build a stronger community by inspiring individuals to be more active and involved in the world around them.

This program is free and requires no pre-registration or long-term commitments. Participants should arrive at 6:45 to sign in, get acclimated to their surroundings, and socialize with the other runners, joggers and walkers. NYRR volunteers will be on hand each week to organize the evening’s events, outline the designated course and assist with any of the participants’ needs. For anyone arriving to the pier directly from work, the NYRR teal provides an on-site bag check to store their belongings until the evening’s run concludes.

A great way to explore Brooklyn Bridge Park and enjoy the amazing views it showcases, this weekly event is also a wonderful way to meet new people, connect with the community and promote individual physical, mental and emotional health and wellness. New parents worried about missing out on the fun can bring their infants or young children along for the run via road-ready strollers. And parents of fur babies are encouraged to bring their puppies and dogs along with them provided they remain on a leash at all times before, during and after the evening’s event.

Perfect for first-time and semi-regular runners, these open runs are also ideal for avid runners who need an extra outlet to prepare for upcoming races and marathons. For students on a budget, they provide a wonderful opportunity to exercise without having to pay various fees and memberships. Since these runs take place after day shift hours, they’re also a great way for professionals from all walks of life to shake off the day’s stress, clear their mind and focus on their own well being for an uninterrupted hour.

Ready to accept the NYRR’s invitation to get up and get active this summer? If so, you’ll be thrilled to know that the apartments at 363 Bond Street in Gowanus are just two miles away from Brooklyn Bridge Park. That means traveling to-and-from Pier 6 for these weekly runs is just a short ride, run, jog or leisurely walk away. So, lace up those trainers and get ready to have fun, stay fit and meet your Brooklyn neighbors!
